So i got an 88 pickup, 3.0 5 speed xtra cab 4x4 with 225000+ miles running good. Lately ive noticed the check engine light come on after a few minutes of driving, nothing seems to be seriously wrong as it still drives good. Ive heard of people jumping the te1 and e1 or something connectors in the diganostic box thing(i dont know the names hope you know what i mean) and turning key to on to read the flashing as the code. Im pretty handy with a wrench but what does it mean to jump the connextors and how and with what? In other words what do i need) i heard jumping wire no idea what that is) and how do i jump it to check the diagnostic thing without a scanner?

and also is there a scan tool or something i can use for it?
