hope all is well out there with everyone.....so, motor overheated real bad. refilled with water, tried to start and motor knocked, tried again and knock, tried again and it started then knocked again after running for a second with steam/smoke pouring out of exhaust with some antifreeze/water dripping out. Guess the HG blown out but worried about knocking. Checked oil and appears to just be oil. not sure what that knocking could be coming from any ideas?

 

Hydraulic lock I'd say, blown gasket allowing water in cylinder, just a thought

 

considering things that some good news....hoping there is not too much damage done.

 

It's possible that you have done bottom end damage hard to say without hearing the knock, hopefully it's just top end

 

Garage gave price of $1600 to fix, going to try to fix myself, chilton book does not have any good info for doing this job, any other manuals out there to use. thanks.

 

What repair are you attemptimg? What was the diagnosis? There are rebuild threads around here. The FSM is the best repair manual....the link in my sig may work for an archived copy.

 

going to try that headgasket swap and see if the head got warped.
