88 22re wont start but cranks and no lights
#1
so a couple days ago i got in my truck to go to work and it wouldnt start at all. itll crank all day but just wont fire/start. Ive had problems with what i thought was the fuel pump for a couple months, until the engine warmed up (it would hesitate some when accelerating but at WOT it would take right off). Im not sure if these have any connection. Ive replaced the coil, distributor cap, and rotor button. Also none of the exterior lights come on, but my led lights and PA system work so i dont think its anything battery related. So after replacing those parts, i tried unplugging the AFM harness and it started but idled TERRIBLY. im just not sure where to go from here.
If anyone has any suggestions id really appreciate it. Oh and i have done the battery/intake swap so would extending the AFM harness cause any of this?

Having the exact same problem except we get lights. I have a summary off all the thing I checked here:

Might be a good starting point for you. Hope it helps.

Have you tried testing your alternator, I know it might not make sense but we had one in the shop the other day that had similar problems and the alternator was putting out 0 amps. Also even though the battery cranks the engine well it may still be low enough without the alternator working to cause odd things to happen.

thanks for the replies fellas. i decided to retrace my work on my battery/intake swap and found i had a bad connection on the wire that runs from fuse box in the engine bay to the positive battery terminal (hence the reason i had no lights or radio). so i cleaned it, recrimped and covered with heat shrink tubing and it cranked right up. Felt like a newb once i figured it out but hey, now i have a new coil and distributor which it needed anyway
