Aloha....
...wondering if anyone had seen a thermo valve fail on a 3.0 throttle body...
ran to the other side of the island over the weekend...0-7000-0ft at 45-65mph...put a few revs on the old 3.0...when i got down to the other side idle was way too high...(dont have a tach, but my guess is well over 2000)..anyways was looking around...found yellow waxing blobs caked around the input coolant bypass hose to the throttle body...
...figured it from the wax actuated idle valve...
...? what caused this?...any ideas?...
temp gauge was solid the whole trip, no overheating..
..got another TB on order...
..Is there a deeper problem here besides a junkyard TB failing after 6months?

I can't say that I've ever seen(or heard of) an AAV(Auxiliary Air Valve) failing like that on a 3VZ-E(or any engine for that matter). Therefore, I can't say what might have caused it. Since, AFAIK, nothing causes one to fail(like that, or any other way, besides the coolant passages becoming clogged, which is fairly common, but doesn't necessarily mean that the valve mechanism has failed, and in fact usually means it hasn't failed). Mine's been working just fine for 24+ years without a single issue. So it's hard for me to believe that it's even possible for one to ever fail completely. How did you manage to blow one up?
