Current model 2.7 into older pickup

I was going over the specs of different model year pickups and tacoma's, and found that the fuel economy is roughly the same for all years.

But then it hit me the current 2.7 inline four (Which i believe is an AR series engine) gets similar fuel economy makes more power and moves a heavier vehicle than my 22re.

Aside from the limiting factors such as money time and a donor truck, I dont see why someone hasn't done this. Considering more power and possible boost in fuel economy??

I guess I should learn how to read. Pretty much all I saw was 2.7.

Its cool, Im still new to toyota's, have more experience in domestics. OEM's like to keep the same displacments through different generations. Sometimes makes getting parts a headache if your one year off. Case and point ford 2.3l and Gm 5.7.

I thought it was the 2tr-fe?

But really, there are too many differences between the 22re and the newer 2.7 (2tr or 1ar, whichever it is)

You would be better off putting a 3rz in, IMO. More similarities and closer to the same engine, technology-wise.

Ah well it was just a thought. I'll look into a 3rz down the road then.
