Just did White Mtn (Big Bear)
I know I shouldn't go alone out back there where it's not safe but I was bored and it was superbowl sunday so I didn't want to bother anyone. I went prepared to camp if I got stuck so I figured a cell phone call to one of ya will get me out if I do get stuck. Took the necessary gear with me so I was okay.
Sorry no pix
I think I'm definitely going to have to get a dig cam as I'm getting pretty pissed for not having one. (still behind the times w/ the good ol film cams)
Anyway, I went to Big Bear yesterday to check out some trails
Must say although the snow has melted quite abit, the back country part of the trails still had some snow to play around! I even threw some snow balls for the hell of it. Damn snow is pretty cold w/o gloves
Here's the trail I took: Map Link
Starting point Hwy 18 and 2N09.
Headed north of 2N09 towards to Holcomb Valley.
West on 3N16 until I hit 3N11.
North of 3N11 and then West on 3N17 until I hit Horse Springs Campsite.
Up until this point, the trail was definitely easy, some snow here and there and parts of the trail was pretty muddy (for all ya mud fans!). Snow in parts of the trail that nobody has visited.
Once on 3N17 heading towards White Mountain, the trail got pretty interested. The map that I have is considered "more difficult" and I must say I was happy that I had the lift and tires to get me thru the fun stuff. Some sections did have snow so that did make it challenging. This part of the trail had 3 tricky sections
Must say it was fun but since I'm lifted, no body carnage! woo hoo!
Once I hit the Horse Springs Campsite, it got me back on 3N14 to head towards Holcomb Valley (3N16) until I got back into Big Bear's dump (3N16 and hwy 18).
Must say once the snow is gone, I'd like to hit 3N16 (from Crab flats) to Holcomb Valley and then John Bull Flat. I guess I'll be going back up there in March if the our own yotatech jambo doesn't happen!
Anyone interested?

Sorry Joyce
It was a last minute thing that I decided that morning. Got up and took a look at the weather and thought, hmmm might be cool to take some pix up there in the late afternoon! Since my truck is packed w/ gear 24x7 I just got in and drove! Picked up my camera equipement and was on my merry way.
Next time I head out, I'll give ya a call since I got your #

haha bud.
yeah i'm down for next time you go. i've never been on any trails around big bear, i'd like to check them out.
it'd be rad if us so cal folks got together more often to hit the trails, like at least once a month.

Gotta say it was a blast. I made sure wherever I went, I was going to be able to get out

With the recent snow I'm suspecting all the trails that I've done are VERY difficult now... Would love to go back in March... We'll see how the other mini jambo turns out I suppose
