Picked this up last night. '02 Sequoia Limited 4WD, with 133k. It needs the shifter assembly repaired, which I read is common on the Tundra's and Sequoia's. The tailgate handle is broken, which is also common. Otherwise it's in pretty good shape. The PO did the timing belt and a valve adjustment at 82k. Transmission was recently serviced too.

YEAHHHH, BABY! Great find! I take it this will be remaining stock for the most part? (you DID SAY, 4Runner thread, "Need four doors and hauling capability to pull whatever TOY is next!".... Which, btw, has me anxious as well, pertaining to WHAT WILL THAT NEXT TOY BE!!!????!!!! LOL. )

Thanks, Mark. Yeah, it's got a few bumps and bruises, but no big deal. One scrape on the door, and a handful of small dings.

The first 'toy' I got is a new tool box for the garage. Next up is a project 510, that I'll be building to autocross and teach my kids the FUNdamentals of driving. Hopefully a deal on a trail worthy rig, will come along too.

Our family owns an 02 sequoia also. The smoothness of the ride is incredible, I have never been in a more comfortable vehicle. Looking forward to the build!

 

They are great vehicles. I have gotten a ton of positive feedback from other Sequoia owners, already. It is definitely one of the nicest riding SUV's I've driven.

 

With the 4Runner, I always wished I had kept better track of the mileage, at the time of new improvements and maintenance, like Habanero does in her thread. I'll try to keep better records during this build.

Today, after work, I pulled the spark plugs to have a look. I brought home some NGK's, and was curious to see what was in there. I found Autolite Platinum plugs, with copious amounts of dielectric grease on them. A couple of them were a little loose, but they all looked like they were burning perfectly.

I installed the BKR6EYA NGK's, gapped at .032".

I also replaced the tailgate handle with a Dorman 79600. Hopefully it holds up over time.

And a before pic of the engine bay. I'll be cleaning under the hood this weekend. I haven't found any leaks yet, anywhere...



I love the engine, the ride, the A/C, and the awesome JBL stereo! So glad I made this decision.

 

It looks good!! Love the power of those engines too. Whats the plan on this build? Whatever it is, we all know its gonna be a good one.

 

For now, I'm fixing the little things that are in need of repair. Soon, I'll be upgrading the brakes, adding a trailer brake controller, and possibly a larger transmission cooler. I want this rig to be ready for a little towing, when the time comes. I already have another 4Runner build on the back burner, so this one will likely remain mostly stock, (unless I get a wild hair). I'm very content with the way it sits already.

So, the only thing on the Sequoia that wasn't stock, is this cheesy Bulldog 'alarm' thing...



As you can see, it has been removed. It was redundant anyhow, since I already have the factory security, and keyless entry. I could only figure it may be used as a shock sensor, which the factory system doesn't have. Either way, the unit wasn't even hard wired in, rather it had an alligator clip attachment for the positive battery lead, and was self grounded. Three sheet metal screws removed, and it was out.

I had planned to toss it in the trash. Then an idea popped into my head... My lawn tractor could use an alarm. I don't know anyone with that mod, so it's gonna happen this weekend. Pics to follow...

Yes, this will be the most 'redneck' mod I've done, since I spray painted the wheels on my go cart 'okie chrome', when I was a kid. Sometimes it just feels right to go back to your roots.

I did some reading about the CD changer, concerning stuck discs in the head unit. It seems that I need to remove the deck, and realign one or more of the discs to get them to eject. Apparently, these stereos don't like burned CD's, and tend to jam. Hopefully I can get it working properly again.

Otherwise, I'm shopping for a deal on some tires and/or wheels, since the Sequoia's shoes are pretty worn out. I already have a spare set of 17" tires, so I'd like to get some of the factory split 5 spoke wheels, to mount them on. If I can't get those for a bargain, I'll find some other 16" tires for the current wheels. I'm trying to keep it looking close to stock. We'll see how long that lasts.

I'll be ordering the parts for the shifter soon. Looking forward to having the simple function, of shifting into drive, in a normal fashion.

 

That look like a clean engine to me. Those engine always seem to pass with flying colors at the shop.

Good lick on the stock wheels. Those are hard to come by for a good price

 

Thanks, I think it runs pretty good too. I have been looking around, and those wheels do seem to be a little pricy. Maybe I'll get lucky.
