Rear view mirror

So my buddy messed with my rear view mirror and the screw fell out, and I tried to screw it back in, but it seems like something that was holding it in place has fallen inside the rear view mirror somehow..

Thoughts? Should I buy a new mirror? If so, how do I install it?

There's a little peice that it screws into that is loose. Pop off the plastic cover, you can usually just get it off by hand. There should be 3 or 4 screws that hold on that part too the roof. Unscrew those and it will come down, you should be able to figure it out from there. Easy peazy.

You must be thinking of a different model 4runner with that mirror because you can't pop off the plastic on mine. Anyways, the part seems basically broken. Any ideas for a replacement? I'm calling the dealership tomorrow, but I'm open for alternatives as long as they're the OE rear views.

When I had my '95 I replaced the mirror with one from www.carpartswholesale.com - fit was great and it was about 60% cheaper than from the dealership.

I doubt that the mirror is broken, by the way. Have you tried removing it to see if there is a way to get the loose piece of plastic out of there and figure out what it is?

Well the mirror isn't broken really, just the other side of the pivot (black plastic) isn't fitting back in right. I was able to lock the screw back in with the metal plating after fiddling with it for about an hour, but if I can't get the swivel's pivot back into the mirror, then I'm SOL.

I checked that site, and others, and the "OE replacement" looks somewhat similar, but my lights above my mirror are different and I'd like to keep them that way. The only place that has my exact part is ebay and places like that, where the part is kind of damaged which I don't like anyways.

Looks like I'm going to pay $170 at the dealership...*shakes fist at toyota*
