Did a new cap and rotor cause this?

So I just bought a new cap and rotor, both japanese, the current rotor is American but I did not see a true difference. I installed them correctly and DID NOT mix up the firing order and I turned it on and there is now a ticking in the distributor. I then mixed the old and new in ever possibility and ended up with both old back on and it is still ticking. I also lost power and I smell a faint fuel smell under the truck. So did the new cap and rotor cause this or is it a complete coincident and something else bad just happened?

Alright give me a quick sec, to me it sounds like something isn't making a contact which IMO would make sense for the loss of power. .

coil wire wasn't on all the way? sounds like the spark is jumping somewhere like a loose wire. or the center electrode on the cap fell out.
