87 4runner injectors not spraying.

ok so i got a 1987 4runner 22re we have rebuilt the motor. tuesday night it fired for the first time and ran but would not idle. wed we went to set timing, jumped the terminals and now it will not fire. with starting fluid it will run. we have spark and fuel to the rail but the injectors arent spraying. now we set the jump wire in position before we started the motor which is where i think we went wrong.now the check engine light will not flash or even appear at all. if jumping it too soon did set this off what will have happened and how can we fix it. also when we try to turn it over the afm just clicks not sure if this is related but its worth noting. thank you

Check the ignition and EFI fuse in the fuse box behind the driver side kick panel. Check the fuses with a meter, because they can look good but be bad.

had that problem in an 87 runner also. if the check engin light will not come on at all even at startup then your main relay is bad its in the driver kick panel its silver and its stamped with "M4" replace that. it supplies the injectors with 12V and the computer switches the ground.
