If you look closely, all of their rigs are located in a area that sees extreme icy conditions. Therefore tire size like that is critical. They don't use it to offroad like us but rather use it as their daily driver. since they live in extreme conditions, it requires them to use really fat tires.

There's a shop that did a run in the antarctica. They had 2 Landcruisers (80 series) and boy they looked pretty tough They even did a special on the Discovery channel showing their setup. The suspension wasn't that high but they had the biggest meats possible! I guess that's what it takes to make a vehicle move.
