Questions on which model 4runner....

Hey folks I have a 2000 2.7 tacoma 4x4 that I've had since 02, got it when I was 17 still a great truck with over 250k miles...I use it for my daily driver and my hunting/beater.

Anyways I now have young kids and do a lot of hunting, fishing, etc...where I need a 4x4 with a little more room. I've been on the look out for a 22re 5speed in good shape, but thinking of going a little newer (late 90's to 2000) if I can find a 2.7 5 speed or even a 3.4. I have been hesitant of a 3.4 auto. If I did go that route what should I do, see if it is the original radiator and tranny are still in and just do the tranny cooler ASAP?

How do the 2.7 5speeds seem to be in the Gen 3, I know it slow but since I already have one in my Tacoma I'm kind of partial to it.

Appreciate the time and info.

Luke

I wouldn't hesitate purchasing a 5vzfe 3.4 ever. As with most of Toyotas engines you dont know how they rank against the previous bulletproof and reliable offerings until they have some mileage behind them. I think this and many of the other Toyota forums will show these are strong engines. As far as the auto trans, I've got over 220,000 and never had one issue. The radiator issue with the pink milkshake is easily corrected with a trans cooler but mine is a 97 and haven't heard of other 97's having the issue. I believe that issue is late model 3rd gens.
