I have a 86 pickup with a 22r. After driving for awhile my throttle starts to get stuck accelerating, and I always have to tap the had pedal then it stops. I thinking maybe the spring is defective after it gets hot? I also have a 32/36 Webber which I haven't tuned yet if that makes a difference.

 

Did you install the webber? If so, when you put the bracket for the throttle linkage on, did you perhaps overtighten the nut? That will cause the bearings on the rod to bind (possibly worse when hot). Also depends on how you hooked it up. When I had a 32/36 I had it hooked to the stock throttle linkage/spring. One day the main spring on the stock linkage broke and would only return slowly with the stock backup spring. I had to rig an aux spring to get the throttle to return normally.

Pop the hood and play with the throttle linkage. Make sure there's no binding and enough spring tension to return it. It should snap back to closed if you let go. If it doesn't do that, replace what broke or adjust what's binding.

 

No I didn't install the Webber, but I'll go check and see what seems to be binding. Thanks for da help

 

In my experience, a new throttle spring will most likley solve the issue, Just put one on one of my rigs a couple of days ago. Any hardware store should have a match.

 

Lube the cable and/or put an extra return spring on it.

 

Also make sure there are no breaks in the cable housing causing it to bind.
