Schaefer's Panhard drop weld?

Though it's cold, and all I can do is look at the parts with a tear in my eye, I've got almost everything in my family room for my lift now.

OME shocks front and rear
OME springs rear
Cornfed Spacers
Ebrake bracket
Panhard bracket

and even my TC skids waiting for that warm install day.

Anyway, I need to get the Panhard bracket welded on, and I don't weld. So I made a call to a local Jeep shop that my buddy recomended (he's in a big jeep club called midwest jeep thing) and I asked them if they could perform the work. After showing them the instructions, they quoted me $75 for it, and that seems high to me. I have nothing to base that opinion on as, like I said, I don't weld it was just a gut feeling.

Any opinions, or recomendations on how to get this work performed. I plan to install my lift myself to familiarize myself more with the components involved.

Bill

Panhard Drop Bracket

This is what I think about $75 for that amount of work...

At $45/hour and $2.50 a rod here in Alabama, it would still be well short of $75. I'd say half an hour and a couple rods at most, $35-40. I'd look around some more for sure.

Looks like you got a bunch of stuff to do! I just did my OME install myself and took some pics and did a short write-up. They are on my website and might be of some help if you've never done that kind of stuff before, as I hadn't either. It's really not hard at all!

Brian, I already looked at your write up, and was thrilled to see that drawhorn is on a new site. I couldn't get it to load till you switched, and was desperately wanting to see it.

I can't wait to get everything done. Looking outside though, it's looking like I'm going to have to rent my parents garage out for a weekend.

Seems high to me, but it sounds like they are billing you for an hour of shop time. Fact of the matter is it should not take an hour IMHO.

Look around at local clubs, become a member, and make friends with people who weld.

I would not pay $75 to weld it since that should be what it cost in the first place.

I have schaefers panhard...

It took 15 minutes to install and weld...

Find someone who won't charge you a full hour of labor...

Brian,
I do not recall seeing that you added the Panhard Drop Bracket during your OME install. Do you have one on there? I hadnot planned on one.
Thanks,
Mike

I have both a panhard drop bracket and an e-brake bracket fabbed up ready to be installed, I just have to get around to it. Both are recommended by some, disputed by others, but not required. It's a personal choice as to what you think works best. Steve Schaefer's Site has some info on the panhard and what it does. The e-brake bracket just puts the cable at more of a normal angle.

I'm waiting on getting my diff spacers on, then an alignment, then I'll do the panhard and the e-brake brackets. Like I said, just a matter of personal preference I guess.

I was so happy with myself and my ebrake bracket. I fabbed it using the arm from my chair at work, the only piece of 3/16"-1/4" metal I could find while perusing the buildling.

That adds new meaning to "taking your work on the road".
