Few '86 22R-E questions

I have a '86 and had a few questions. First, the fuel gauge showed just under half a tank, so I filled her up, at $15 lol. The fuel gauge is apparently not working properly. Second, the truck is cut off behind the cat, the small engine isn't really loud but when driving it's horrible and I like to enjoy my rock crawlers on the street too. What muffler would sound ok behind a 22R-E? Last, for now, I'm stock engine wise, running Chevy and Ford running gear, 5.29's on a 5speed manual and 37's. Anyone doing any number of cheaper mods to help out a little? I mean it pulls fairly good considering and I like the Yota engine just fine. I'd like to just gain something to help some. I don't expect a 100hp/torque lol, just anything that may open it up a bit. The fuel gauge is a must have. Now, first off, the fuel was rusty brown in the filter, and injectors were clogged, one was tight making it a 3 banger. I put clean fuel in the tank which was only $15 worth because the gauge was incorrect, and did a fuel cleaner which I'm sure won't do a thing lol. So, it could be froze in the tank. I'd like to start somewhere a little more simply first before I drop the tank. Maybe there's a wire or something.

None of the fuel gauges on those trucks work anymore. You'll most likely need a new sender unit, which as far as i know isn't made anymore. I've got a cheap summit racing turbo muffler (about 15 bucks) on my 4runner and it sounds ok. Honestly i like the stock muffler the best, but mine was beyond hope. 22re performance mods probably won't make any noticeable difference on 37 inch tires without some SERIOUS cash, at which point you're probably better off just replacing the motor with something bigger. Ford/Chevy engine?

Hmm, well maybe I'll start checking for a close guestiment on what gas mileage it gets. These tiny engines are best on stock mufflers, if I can find my stock setup off my old '97 Nissan 4x4 I'll use it. As for the performance it pulls my 37's ok, I sure won't be pulling the engine anytime soon, the dash shows 121,000 but the dual cases stopped that a while back but I put it at well under 200,000 because it's only recently been used back on the street, it was only a crawler. I'll probably run a couple clean tanks of fuel, and change filters and get some clean fuel and I may just gain back some of the like 140hp it had when new. If I swap engines later on it'll certainly be one from a Dodge truck, 360 probably.
