I got my brakes sorted out this morning, so I figured I'd take the 84 for a quick spin around the block. The truck did great until I shifted into third gear. It immediately started to bog down, to the point where I had to shift back to second or it was going to die. I recently rebuilt the carb and added a fuel pressure regulator set at 3.5 psi. The throttle was sticking pretty bad too, but I'm going to try a stiffer return spring. My question is what would cause the bogging and would it be related to the truck running hot? I'm new to carbs, so maybe there is something beyond me happening here, air/fuel mix? Also, I have a manual choke.

 

I got my temp down. My thermosrtat was stuck closed and I went ahead and replaced the temp sensor while I was at it. I still don't know what to do about the bogging down.

 

Did you block off the return fuel line? Not on my pickup, but a friend's Dodge D50 with a new Weber install, it would bog about the time we were in 3rd or just shifting into 4th gear because that was about the point the fuel in the bowl was spent. Blocked off the fuel return line, and bogging no more.

 

I did block off the fuel retun, but still no dice.
