i am about to purchase a '99-02 4runner. i live in san diego, and the market is extremely expensive out here. i want buy one out of state where it is cheaper, but i need to make sure that these came standard with California emissions. i was told they did but i'm not sure if it's fact.

CA emmissions was not standard in 1999, not sure about the other years. I believe NY requires the CA spec though.

You should be able to tell by looking at the sticker under the hood. My 2000 (not purchased in California) says Fed & Canada and that it isn't for sale in California or states that have adopted the California rules.

Monkey:

Go read up on the CA DMV website. I believe there is some provision that will allow you to 'import' a non-CA emission vehicle if it meets some mileage and age criteria. I think I read that somewhere on that website. Check it out b/f you buy.
