I just got my first truck last week, it's a 1994 2wd regular cab 5 spd. It's a base model with no options and a few dents, but runs great and should work perfectly for me. I plan on using it mostly for trips around town (I mostly bike), ski trips, road trips, and hopefully some runs to the dunes.



The only major thing I need to fix is the rusted out exhaust. The Y-pipe coming off the manifold is cracked, the pipes have some rust holes, the the muffler is toast. The cat looks ok though.

My question is, how much louder than stock is an aftermarket exhaust? Are there any muffler brands that increase flow without significantly increasing volume? I've searched and read about a lot of setups, but most people don't talk about volume. Thanks for the help.

I cant speak to aftermarket parts but I just bought a stock exhaust kit for my 1990 22r and it only cost me $100. That bought a new stock muffler, tip, and the full pipe back to the header. I cut my cat off as it was clogged and so far we in west Tennessee dont have emissions checks yet. The parts man (Orileys) said the aftermarkets would fit and work but would increase the audible volume by quite a bit so I stayed with stock. Still has a nice sound and I can hear my radio. Nice find by the way. Looks pretty good. Good luck and keep us posted.

 

Ask around and find a well recommended local muffler shop.

The quotes I've received from shops have been around $300. Where did you get your kit?

 

Get a dynomax catback it wont be much louder if its any louder than stock. When I bought mine they had a rebate going and it turned out to be pretty cheap around $60 after the rebate

 

From the Orileys one town over from here. It is a stock muffler and Pipe setup. It will cost more if you plan to replace your cat or reuse the old one due to the pipe haveing to be cut for the addition. I didnt use one so my kit was a bit cheeper. I also got to use the stock hangers and that will reduce the cost as well. Clamps will work but I perfer welding to join the pipes. Wabbit is right. If you got a good muffler shop that works cheep use em to weld for you. If not a good friend with a welder who knows how to use it will also save you some cash. Thats what I did. $300 for a single exhaust?

my mustang was quoted $400 for a true dual system, header back. and I supply the mufflers. ( even that sounds expensive to me )

my 4Runner was about $150 when i did it and i supplied my owner muffler.

2.25" all the way through. LCE or equivalent header, free flow cat, muffler of your choice, tail pipe out the back to the side.
