Do you think it's worth $1,200.00?

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum but not new to toyotas. I'm thinking of getting back into a 1st gen 4runner and found an 84 with original engine and transmission. The current owner claims it runs well and has 225,00 miles. He wants 1,200 for it. Do you think it's worth it?

No I haven't. It's about three hours away and I would probably tow it home. I figured I would ask yotatech's opinions.

Its worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Clearly the body has seen better days. But what really counts is the driveline. And it might be fine for another hundred thousand, it or might last 5 minuites once you start driving it. You never know with used vehicles.

Thanks. No I haven't. It's about three hours away and I wanted to see what you guys/gals thought before I went to take a look. I'm kind of on the fence because the body seems a little rough.

It may be worth it, it may not be. Depends on what your goals are for it. Definately looks like a project with numerous rusty body panels. The chassis underneath may be questionable.

Is that $1,200 a firm price? If your 3 hours away and have to tow it I'd try to haggle some more maybe $1,000 ?

I live on the coast so I would like a project that I can also take to the beach so I dont have to worry about my Tacoma getting rusted out. However I don't want a project that's too involved. I don't mind the body work but I wouldn't want to mess with the frame. I'm thinking of going to take a look at it on wednesday.

Well originally he was asking $1,850. I offered him $1,000 but he said $1,200 is his bottom dollar. Also thinking of maybe calling him back in a couple of weeks if he still has it, maybe then he'd consider $1,000.

I'd say it's worth a look. But then again i just drove 8 hrs round trip to look at an 87 last week. Then drove the same today to pick it up. Was a good bit cleaner than that, but for 1200 I wouldn't pass it up without at least getting some flicks of the frame and undercarriage.

If it's not rotted out and the drivetrain seems in decent shape, go drive it.

I think I'm going to have the owner send me some pics of the frame and undercarriage. If it looks good I might have to go take a look at it.
