Nankang Mudstars. ANy experience? Good, bad?
I'm looking for tires for my '81 4x4 and have eyed a set of Nankang Mudstars. They are a little cheaper than most aggressive tires, but seem ot be a good deal. Is the fact that they are "cheaper" in price mean they are cheaper in quality?
How well do they hold up long term on pavement? I mostly pavement driving, but aside from the occasional off road adventure I also use my truck to haul firewood, which includes some pretty nasty places so a good gripping tire would be nice. I also do some driving on the little ice and snow we get in KY so they would have to do fair on this surface. I see they do not have any siping(sp?) so I would think this would affect how well they grip snowy conditions.

I bought my set of mud stars a couple months after I bought my pickup. There closing in on a year and ten thousand miles I've rotated them every three thousand and they barely look warn. I would be surprised if I didn't get another 30000 out of these tires maybe more. I've tested them in Alabama mud and they grip great dig in and clean tread good when spun, don't need 4 wheel drive unless it's a really bad mud stretch. There a 6ply tire so pretty tuff but ride better than my old bald bfg ats, I haven't tried them in snow or ice though.

I will start off by saying i have never ran a pair so take it for what its worth.
There are many people around here that run them and get good mileage out of them.Their tread pattern on the mud stars is identical to buckshot maxxis mudders and I have ran those. The buckshot pattern does perform good in mud and on highway.Of course with any other MT tire you need some decent wheel spin to clean um.
