Hey guys whats up. Got an 88 4Runner with stock rear leafs that is currently using the Zuk Mod. I'm using 99 4Runner coil springs to help bring back up the rear from the notorious "sag." Anyhow, I have been experiencing a lot of spring chatter noise from the leaf springs and they happen to make the noise almost everywhere I drive my Truck. The worst is when I come to a stop, back up, or when I accelerate, which is where the noise is most prominent. I had one of my buddy hop into my truck as I watched him back up giving the clutch a fast release to see where the problem was coming from and turns out the noise was coming from the front hanger. I could see the leaf having a lot of play and space each time he released the clutch in reverse.
So is it my bushings that are faulty or could it be something else? I haven't experienced anything like this so I was hoping anyone here with prior knowledge could help shed some light on this issue. Thanks in advance!

 

Get.............some..................new......... ...........................bushings?

 

Actually just replaced mine a while back. I have rear springs on the front end. So their stock yota rears. I just ordered some poly's online. You can find them anywhere. The old bushings is a pain to tear out, but once its out the new red bushings slides right in.

 

LOL, like the sense of humor. I've been researching online and found a few energy suspension for $20-35 for the main leafs and rear shackles. Guess I'll pull the trigger and order a set online and cross my fingers hoping its just bad bushing causing the chattering spring noise. Any other inputs would be great. Thx!

 

PB Blaster and a good hot torch (MAP gas or better) might be your best friend depending on whether there is a sleeve up in there or not. Even without, those weird toyota bolts with the flanges that bolt to the outside of the hangers (not sure if they are on your truck or not...) can be a pisser to get out when they are really corroded. Heat has always helped me in the past.

 

Yeah, I have never taken out bushings before so this will be an experience, thats for sure. I've taken the two front hangers off before when installing the 99 Coil springs so that shouldn't be hard. The shackles are another story but I'll test out all your suggestions and go from there. Just have to wait for the bushings to arrive this weekend or next week. I'll post some pics of before and after when I get them.

 

Got a guy who is selling his rear 4 inch leaf springs for $50, you guys thinks it worth the hassle or should I just stick to the bushings?

 

Turns out that the chatter noise is caused from axel wrap. The stock leafs are toasted and replaced it with used 4 inch leafs off an 83 pickup. Everything measured correctly so I did the install and had no more axel wrap! Rides a bit stiff but at least I don't have to tolerate the chatter noise, so I'm happy that I no longer need to crank the radio up to avoid the chatter, lol.
