Have 22re but got a 22r engine, efi conversion help!

Alright so i currently have a 22re in my truck ran until the connecting rod went out. I found a 22r on the forums. I am buying this engine and my question is do i need anything else to do the efi swap. I am going to use the 22re i currently have to use the parts off to put on the R. Would this be difficult? Would their still be wiring evolved considering i already have the ecu and everything hooked up in the truck? Let me know! I am now to go at this conversion stuff i tryed reading on pirate and couldn't really get a good grasp of it. Thanks yotatech!

It should be a straight up swap. Just yank the old head and block and your EFI equipment should bolt right back on to the 22R motor. Correct me if I'm wrong folks, but I'm pretty sure that the only difference between a 22R and a 22RE is the fuel delivery and electronic; the block and heads are the same.

depends on the year of the engine. I think the 85 and up had different heads/ intake bolt patterns than the first gen 22r's and the whole single/dual row timeing chain thing. If the top end on your 22re is good and you threw it on the "new" bottom end, things SHOULD be fine. More research would be good. I was reading a thread on here about putting the re intake on a r head and those guys knew of the pitfalls. Sorry though, I can't remember the exact years/issues you'd have.

The 22r blocks are the same. Just pull out your old and swap everything from your 22re to the new block. Head, sensors..everything. Great time to do a valve job and replace all of your seals and send the injectors to get them cleaned.
