84 pickup, new owner.

Im a new owner of a 1984 yota pickup, 22r, 4x4 5 speed.

im not so knowledgeable on these older carbureted trucks and i was wondering if you guys could throw me some info on this truck. things i should look out for, typical issues, things specific to my gen, or my year truck.

ill tell you a little about it also: i got it for about 1000 bucks. everything works, ive already had to fix the brakes. ive changed the fuel and air filter, and spark plugs. it only has 102k on it, as the former owner used it to bail hay on a farm, so it sat in a barn for alot of its life.
the ride is ROUGH. it has a flat bed and no weight in the back and it has old remington wide brute tires on it. the tires are bald and dry rotted and i have a buddy giving me 275/ 15s to put on it. hopefully that wont have any negative effects...
another thing i was hoping to get some help with, is that the steering jumps, like if i hit a bump the wheel goes its own way with the tires. its annoying, and its preventing me from going on the highway. are new tires going to solve that problem? because my stabilizer shock looks fine...

i appriciate any feedback! thanks!

thank you.

also, i just saw my fuel pump spraying fuel, so looks like its time for a new one.

is it simple to replace them? just unbolt, and remove lines, then mount and bolt the new one on and replace the lines? (its a mechanical fuel pump)

Yeah, the mechanical fuel pump is pretty much an in and out swap. Just make sure you replace the gaskets with it and check for fuel leaks thoroughly afterwards.
