ok i usually don't do my own oil change but this time i wanted to try to save 5 bucks. or i thought i would enjoy it.

when i removed the oil filter i ripped the thin electrical wire from some type of sensor near the oil filter. my question is what sensor is this? oil sensor?

since it's ripped how do i fix this? do i just solder another wire to make it longer then unplug the sensor from the engine and solder it and plug it back in, and that's it?

i tried to google a diagram but no available. should i just take a picture to show you guys here?

 

It is likely it is the wire off the oil sending unit.

Just curious how did you manage to tear it off.

yes you should be able to just make the wire a little longer and put a new end on solder and heat shrink .

it should be fine.

 

well i bought the truck used, and the wire was just barely connecting. i seen this and knew it, so when changing the oil filter, it just came off.

Can i still drive it without this?

what is the process of changing it since i just dumped new oil in the engine? i haven't started it yet though.

how does this oil sending unit come off the engine? plug? screwing it off like a drain plug?
so i can solder a new wire to the wiring end but how would i connect it to the other end, i need to somehow remove it right? what is the process of that?

yes true, but the wiring on the plug part is ripped off very very short. i would need to somehow learn to remove the plug, then solder a wire to it, then plug it back in. i can't solder a new additional wiring to the plug while it's plugged in the engine as there is no room to solder the new wiring.

so how do you properly remove the oil sending unit plug? i like to know some process ahead of time before i screw up something else

 

What year, make, and model? If it's 22re then you just pull up on the terminal and it will just slide off.

 

it's a 1993 22re, toyota 2wd pickup standard cab.

i just looked at it, so most likely i can just pull it out, is there any plastic thing that holds it in? also will any oil be leaking if i take it out?

 

No oil will come out..you are taking the plug off the sensor and not taking the whole sensor out right?

 

yes the plug on the sensor and not the entire sensor.

Does your sensor look like A?

There will be a clip you press down on and then pull it straight out.

Or B?

This one looks like a flat connector. Just pull UP on the plug and will slide right off..no clips are holding it on.

 

ok great, visual for newbies. yes it's looks like A. ok i'm going to push on the clip then pull it right out. i'll try this soon.
