I've never tried a double din in these trucks but I'm sure you could make it work with a little creativity.

Welcome to yotatech!

No problem. Yes, there was a pocket or just a blank plate under the radio. However, If you wanted to I don't see why you couldn't stuff a double din in there.

that truck should accomodate a double din radio with little to no modifications to the outside housing. (the part that has the ash tray in it and surrounds the radio) it will mount using the factory metal radio brackets and should wire up like any other head unit with a toyota harness, minus any brake bypasses you may want to do to get video while driving.

I just put a double din dvd player in my 89 4runner , the bottom pocket under the radio was cut out so it would fit in there and used the factory radio brackets, it fit just right.

Yes I belive so . The side of the radio should have holes were the factory brackets screw into there should be three levels to screw into I think I used the bottom level so it seats centered in the dash but you may have to choose one of the other levels to center yours depending on which radio you choose to get but it will fit , I will post a picture when I get home.

Any pictures of the double din? I have been thinking about it but I'm not sure if I want to go touch screen or what. This is what I have as of now.

I'm not sure as to whether or not a double din would fit inside the opening for an 88, but I know that my 7" fit with a little light sanding and used my dremel around the inside bezel. I also don't have to use any kind of dash kit because my double din bolts right up to the factory radio mounting brackets which makes it kind of nice because that would be a giant pain in the back end to pull that out of there if you weren't supposed to be lol.
