getting the yota on the road again

i have a 1987 pickup ext cab, 4x4, 22r, 5speed that has been setting for almost 8 years now that my dad gave to me if i want to fix it.
it has a cracked head and 220,000 miles which i know is nothing for these trucks.
i was wondering how i should start the build on it and what all i need to do to it.
just want it for a daily driver due to my broncos 10 mpg, might get off road a little.
any suggestions how i should start and what i should buy first other than a head?
im 17 so i have some but little knowledge on what i need to do to get it running again any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Congrates on the yota . Treat her good she take care of ya. You know what I'm talkin about

Well ya other then the head id check fluids in diff, trans, t-case. Depending on budget, change them if there dirty looking. But most likely should just change everything.

Got any pics? Maybe some of the engine compartment. Might help us with suggestions.

These trucks are pretty easy to shine up.

Once you do get a new head for it. Plan for general tune up, plugs, wires, distributer, oil change, coolant flush, just the obvious. Unless theres anything else wrong with her that should pretty much do it.
Everything there is to know aboot a yota on here.

Do you know the story behind the truck? Was it overheated, or anything like that?

If you $can$, I would just so its a new motor. But it probably doesn't need one if they changed the oil once and a while.

If its been sitting for 8 years with gas in it then the fuel system will most likely be gummed up. Probably wanna rebuild the carb or at least take it apart and clean it, and drop the gas tank to see how it looks inside.

X2 fuel system.

Brakes could use some inspection also after sitting that long. Calipers could be seized up. But thats somthin to check after you get it running. Mostly just want to make sure their releasing when you let off the brakes.
