I have a 2nd gen 4runner and i cannot get it to engage 4x4 at all, in New years weekend i was able to connect vacuum directly to the vacuum actuator on the axle and it would engage until i shifted into 2wd, but 4x4 worked fine, and this weekend we went on a 4x4 trip and could not get it to engage at all. we had a mechanic replace the valve covers before this trip. but also when we would disconnect a vacuum line to try and get it to engage with another vacuum line and nothing ever changed the rpm.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get manual hubs. Modify the front diff to be activated full-time. Search this forum for the how-to.

 

x2 on that. I have Aisin Hubs on my 94 and plan to do the full time mod to the front diff and get rid of the vacuum stuff under there. One less problem to worry about. There are threads here for how-to.

 

what would i look under having same problem......
