motor swap question: 2wd 3.4 into a 4wd?

i have a 98 tacoma 4x4 limited extended cab with the 3.4 and its an automatic. i bought it and the motor is no good. i have a friend that owns a towing company/junk yard and he has a 2002 tacoma pre runner in the yard that was flipped over which is also a 3.4 and automatic. my question is will the motor out of the 2wd pre runner work in my 4wd? if not what will i have to change over and is it worth my time or do i just need to go hunt a motor out of a 4wd?thanks

Welcome to yotatech.
Lots of good info here in the stickies:

I would think it would work fine swapping over things like the oil pan, but you should find your answers with the link above

I can't think of any reason why it would not work, the 4WD system is separate from the engine....but I could be totally wrong.

Strip the donor motor to just a long block with lower manifold. Swap over your harness and throttle body. Possibly the oil pan/ pickup for oil pump.
