3rd gen supercharged from the factory?

I am well aware of the supercharger being an option but i found a 1996 4runner TRD edition that came from the factory with a supercharger. Seller claims it was 1 of 500 ever made. I have searched up and down to try and find something about this "special edition" runner with no luck, hoping there is a yota guru that can give me some insight on this truck. i am considering putting an offer in on the truck

The 96 did not come with a supercharger. I bought one of the first 96 4runner limited in the state (Missouri). Dealer swore it had every option available since it was the showroom vehicle. Also, I believe TRD's first supercharger didn't come out until 1998. Ask him for the VIN, I have a pretty low number 3xxx...

Ditto, Pretty sure there were no 96/97 trucks with superchargers due to TRD not recommending them for those years. The motors were weaker and had smaller injectors.

My guess is the guy is trying to jack up the price of the truck by claiming it is a TRD model, which is not a bad thing per se, just don't pay anymore for it then you would any other truck in it's condition.

Seller is either ignorant or outright lying. Beware.
