re-torquing head bolts

I just changed my head gasket a few weeks ago and i was told that i should retorque my head bolts after like a month and i was wondering if i should do this or not. thanx.

I have heard that it is recommended to re-torque them. I'm no mechanic, so don't take my word for it. Maybe someone else can enlighten you.

Certainly can't hurt. FWIW, I've always done it but never heard someone else recommend/require it.

geez, thanks for the reminder. It's been about about 4 months since I did my headgasket and I haven't look at the bolts again since.

i am about to redo my valves and am going to retorque the head bolts while i am there..... my truck has an oil leak and its just one of the things i want to try.... it also appears my main front seal leaks, as does the distributor o ring and hte fuel pump gasket

I used to sell auto parts for many years ,we sold Fel-pro gaskets and they would tell you which vehicles needed to retorque the head bolts,toyotas was not one of them.

I rebuilt my head about 8 months ago and haven't retorqued. nop leaks and chiltons doesn't list a need to do it. If it did blow just gives me a reason to take it apart again
and add more parts!
