replacing rear wheel bearing in 1986 truck

I am replacing the rear wheel bearings in my 1986 pickup. I am ready to put the new bearings back.I have read about several ways to do it, put the bearing in the backing plate then the axel then the retaining ring, or press or bang it all all on at one time. What is the best way to do it?

I took it to a shop. About 80 dollars later i had a new seal, bearing, etc. All pressed together and cleaned up.

Thanks The other question I have is that from the link and other places I have looked it looks like they just press or drive the bearing into the backing plate by the center ring of the bearing and do not apply any pressure to thee outer edge. Is that correct?
