'88 4Runner - Exhaust Fumes in cabin.

I'm kinda new to the 4Runner crew. I recently picked up an '88 as a fun rig.

Anyways, i've been learning with it, and searched a lot and now have became stuck.

When I am driving the rig, the in cabin exhaust fumes are kinda heavy. I always have to come home and take a shower/wash my clothes or I smell like gasoline/exhaust. Is there a common thing that could cause this? Exhaust Manifold Gasket?

Is your back window rolled down at all? That's a big one. I added a rear window deflector from a second gen. But it only works when the rear window is down but the others are closed. Once I open any other windows..... Good night.

Just like Kiyobrown said, grab yourself a spoiler off a second gen 4Runner that should help cut it down.

If indeed your driving with the rear hatch window open.

If you have exhaust leaks or just the exhaust of other vehicles if you have holes in the floor it will allow the exhaust in.

Holes in the firewall that someone drilled then never closed if you have any exhaust leaks in the engine compartment it will find it`s way in.

On mine I had a small leak at the manifold- y pipe flange, not too bad, but it got worse slowly to where I could smell it at a stop. Got louder one day, lo and behold, I only had one out of three nuts holding it on. Fixed that and no more smell. Might look there, it's a simple fix.
