HVAC Question

Just completed an engine swap in my new-to-me 1997 4runner SR5. Drove it home for the first time last night. Today the air control switch is not working. It worked fine last night. I get heat out of the dash only, cannot redirect to the windshield or floor. Before I tear into this, are the directional doors cable or vacuum operated?

I have a '98, not sure when they redesigned things but...
Looking at the spare unit I have in front of me the Fresh/Recirc lever is cable operated, Fan speed is electric, Temperature appears to be cable operated, and Air Direction looks to be electric as well. This is for my '98 SR5 4runner, again, not sure when the change was made between 3rd gens. Hope this helps.
