my 89 22RE gets stuck in gear and the clutch pedal is too soft and it has to be pumped for it to work a little. no leaks though. so it seems like its loosing pressure inside the master cylinder.

You can get a kit for it but like the guy said above, you might as well just get a new one. They are super cheap and pretty straight forward.

Just make sure they get 4x4 or 2x4... the guys at carquest had to re-order it twice... so i was out of my job for 2 days waiting for it. I suppose I could have slam-shifted lol.

Oh I forgot to ask something. Are you familiar with the clutch pedal break pedal bracket going out? It's very common on the older vehicles. It kind of acts like a sea-saw and doesn't push the piston in completely.

Well the story goes like this...

When I bought my it had come from a good friend of mine right before he died. Someone abandoned it because a clutch job was too expensive so he did it himself and sold it to me.

It was always so difficult to shift when I bought it. I thought, well its probably the cylinders going out, either the slave or master. So i fixed both of them and after re-bleeding i realized it's just not working. I still can't shift. The transmission is fine, throw out bearing/pilot bearing are fine. Shifting was fine (when off) and no gears were disengaging. By this time i'm so pissed and frustrated.

Well i decided to go to another mechanic. I drove it there using my clutch start cancel button, my starter, and throwing it in gears while not stopping at any stop lights... don't ask me how i didn't get pulled over.

I go there and the guy goes... you done all that? What about your bracket. To my amazement he was right. I guess over time (he's seen them a lot) the bracket pedals start to stretch and become very weak. So everytime i pushed the pedal in i was actually just pushing the top bracket off of the fire wall... like a sea-saw. So after a special 240 dollar new bracket assembly i got it fixed.

Honestly... that was one where i'm like... really?

Anyway glad its working again lol.

damn haha you went through all that.....

but I will check that bracket anyway because something is starting to squeak somewhere in the clutch pedal area. i really hope is not the new master cylinder. I'm hoping is the clutch pedal pin that needs wd-40

I had the same problem with the pedal bracket. Biggest PITA ever, changing it in the rain makes it even more fun, lmao.
