Losing interest in the 4Runner. Thinking about selling
My baby '95 4Runner spun a lower end bearing in early November. I have the engine ready to pull, but I am losing interest. I havent done any work on it since late November. Its been sitting in my garage since it died. I'm falling more in love with my beater Tundra than I was expecting! Haha. I just dont see myself having time or the will power to finish the 4Runner. I am thinking about selling it, but am torn because I LOVE this rig. It is fun and looks good (IMO), but is a terrible winter vehicle in that it doesnt get or stay warm, it rides rough in the cold, I've grown to appreciate and WANT ABS now. I would have to put a lot of money in to it to have it even as a decent back-up vehicle. It would have to be stored in my garage all winter, even as a back-up rig. I dont NEED the money, so the few hundred I could get for it would go directly towards my Tundra. I'm itching to start working on the Tundy, but the 4Runner takes up 90% of my garage, so there is little extra space to even weld. I just cant decide.
Like I said, I just dont see myself finishing the 4Runner. I'm sure I would regret it, but I think I am going to have to let her go....

For one, I dont have any other wheels or tires to go on it. Two, the tires are dry rotting, one has a huge gash in the tread from rocks and the two front ones have almost no tread left. All hold air perfect, though. The rack I bought for like $450 new local. Could probably sell for like $200. I would have no use for it.
Another reason to sell it: The tundra has the same amount of passenger room as the 4Runner, but also has a BED. So I really dont need another multi-passenger vehicle. I would probably buy a car for a back-up vehicle or a more fuel efficient DD.

I really CANNOT decide. I got an offer for $500. And 5 other people wanting to look at it. Looking through pictures of it made me just miss it
Kind of motivated me to start working on it again.

Prozac is for depression..haha...
So, I want my garage back. If I finish draining the oil will it be okay to leave outside until spring? Its regularly getting colder than -25F, even had some -40F and colder a few days ago. Will it hurt anything? Battery is also out. The engine is just a few bolts away from being able to be pulled.

Dude!!!! What are you thinking? don't give up on the 4runner! Still looks great, new shocks will help that cushy Toyota ride. If you need more heat, you could always install a rear seat heater from the early FJ's. My '92 truck is still a close part of the family. You should really rethink the evil thoughts that have been creeping into your mind. I know the Tundra is refined and up to date with the latest technology but, when the smelly stuff hits the fan, the 4Runner will be there to get you out...

Thanks guys. Im not selling it. At least not yet. If I do, it will be after I fix it, or after a few more months of sitting on it.
I would really like an answer to my question about leaving it out in the cold. I'm pretty sure it will be okay, but just need another's opinion. I want my garage back.
It needs a lot of work besides the engine. Pretty sure the wheel bearings are toast. Like I said, needs better heat. Most likely needs the heater core cleaned out. It has rear heat, but doesnt help. Windows still get frosted over at -25 and colder, even with only me in it. 2 or more people I can barely keep the windshield clear. My Tundra stays warm, and actually defrosts. Front diff needs new seals. T-case needs output seals replaced. Clutch is probably close to gone. etc etc.

IMO: You'll be fine leaving it in the cold. I would throw a cover on it or something to try and keep it out of the elements as much as you can.

I'm planning on throwing a tarp or two over it. The only thing I'm concerned about is damaging the engine by not being run/heated. It won't have fluids in it. I might leave the remaining oil in it (probably about 1-2 quarts. I left some in it to help lubricate it while rotating the crank and such to line stuff up). Coolant is drained so I dont have to worry about it freezing, expanding and cracking the block/head. Might be a little left in there, though. Block drain plug was kind of gunked up. I'm just a little concerned if it will be damaging to NOT have fluids in it and out in this cold. It will get condensation in it, I know. But shouldnt rust beyond repair, if at all. Unfortunately my garage is not tall enough to pull the engine out with a hoist, so thats the main factor in waiting until spring/summer.

Well... your motor is already unusable. The cold will not hurt it. Things may freeze but it will be okay. If it does rust a little then it will get taken care of when you take your block to the machine shop. They will bore or hone your cylinders and hot tank it. You'll be fine.

If you had the antifreeeze in it at correct amount for the temperture that it will go thru, I wouldnt worry about it freezing. If not I would just drain the water out. The oil wont hurt anything.
If you arent going to get to it til spring and havent pulled the motor yet, I personally would just leave it in the truck, unless you are wanting to work on just the motor during the winter.
Otherwise pulling it and trying to remember where you put everything and where everythign goes several months later is really frustrating.
Leaving motor in truck and truck outside would be your best bet. If you really like the truck, the $500 will be gone but the regret will stick around alot longer the cash.
