Tacoma or Tundra

A buddy of mine just sent me this email. His roomate is looking into a new truck. I'm leaning towards a Tacoma but would like your guys input. He would never see more then a dirt road with it and doesn't mod his vehicles. Thanks.

"Hey man, question for ya. Jay is looking at getting a new rig, and he's leaning towards getting a Toyota. He can get into a brand new Tacoma quad cab for about $24,000 with a fair amount of options. He can also get into a Tundra extended cab for about the same amount of cash, but with fewer options. Since you're the big Toyota guy, which do you think would be the better option. I'm suggesting the Tacoma because of what he would use it for. The only thing that would make me lean towards the Tundra would be that he does occasionally pull a small trailer, but I'm sure that the Tacoma could easily handle it. The Tacoma he's looking at has a 3.4L V6 and a 5-speed manual transmission, while the Tundra has the 4.7L I-Force V8 and a 4-speed automatic transmission. Let me know what you think."

well if he wants to wait, the new 05 tacoma will be based on the 03/04 4runners.

It will sport the same v6 engine and is rumored to sport the v8 engine as well. Size will increase abit as the new 4runners are abit bigger than the 3rd gens.

Aside from that, if he's looking to drive 5 speed, then he's going to have to get the tacoma (non double cab - not offered).

Go for the Tundra if your not going to mod it. Just throw a toolbox and some all terrains on the tundra, and your set. Looks great I think.

What month do the new Tacoma's come out. He is replacing an Explorer that he wrecked this winter. So I figure any Toyota is better then an Explorer.

You can say that again.

I would get the new tacoma, the tundra just seems too big for what he is looking for.

I'd get a 2004 Tacoma TRD Xtra cab with a 5 speed manual.
