Cylinder compression test, first dry, then if any cylinders are low, add teaspoon of oil and check again. Off the top of my head, should be between 141lbs and 172 lbs, with no more than 10% difference in all cylinders. Mysterious oil level dropping is what I experienced in my 3VZE about 2 months before it lost the #6 cylinder.
Download FSM using the link in my signature for more complete diagnostics and details about the results.

If you add a teaspoon of oil and the pressure increases, then you have a problem in the block. If there is no increase, you have sticky or burnt valves, head problems.

Don't sweat it, just test the compression and then decide what to do with your results.
