87 22r Carb Problem, FLOODED!!

So I was driving along minding my own business when, after a rather aggressive acceleration maneuver, I lost all throttle response. Coasted into a parking lot and parked her. Tried to start but engine wouldn't fire. Opened hood and imediately smelled gas so I started looking around and found gas leaking out from around the base of the carb. Pulled air filter and found intake manifold FULL of fuel.

Towed truck home and replaced carb with another one from salvage that has its own set of problems, but the engine itself runs good.

So my question is what could have caused the original flooding? I want to put my old carb back on as it had worked well until the issue. I may just rebuild the whole thing but someone removed the number tag so I have no idea what rebuild kit is appropriate.
