85 truck interior lights
]I have a 85 toyota truck. As many of yall know the interior lights arent all that great. I was wandering if there were any swaps that could be done. Forgive me if there is a thread on here, I tried searching but didnt come up with anything.
Also, the drivers side door, when you open it the light doesnt come on so i pulled the switch out of the door jamb and it was unhooked so i re connected it and it blew the fuse, and kept blowing fuses, any ideas on this??

Thank you![/COLOR]

Thank you for that info! Is it possible to put a light unit from like a 04 pickup into these trucks? I know it would take a little modification but im alright with that. Has it been done?
also, any ideas on the fuses blowing??

Suppose any swap is possible, just get the part and figure out a way to install it. Might look at a 1st gen SR5 pickup or 4Runner, they have the nice map lights. But the LED in the dome light works great. And LEDs in the door courtesy lights are great as well, actually something not so bright is better here as a very bright light in the door kills your night vision if you are out at night.
Must be a short some place. The way all those lights work is the door switches are the grounds (when the door is open) and the lights have constant power. So open the door, switch closes providing the ground connection and the light comes on. I would check out what wiring in there that you can find and look for any damaged insulation, etc. Might also be someone tried to install an alarm or something in there and tapped in (poorly) to the door switch wiring and that is causing the problem.

Awesome! Thanks for the info on the switch. Ill try to tear into it tomorrow and see what i can find. I hope that i can get it fixed. no interior lights suck! I will order a LED soon for it. I gotta pull it out anyways and clean the contacts and the rest of it up.
Thank you!

Update:
I tore into the truck today, I took the passenger side door switch out and tested it with a ohm meter and then tested the connections with a test light. I went over to the drivers side and I couldnt find a wire in the kick panel that was switched with the interior light. I had to trace the wires from the light to the fuse block and jump off the switched wire of the two. I had to pretty much make my own wire for the door switch to connect to , I searched everywhere and couldnt find anything. evidently someone has cut it out and cut it to short.
I hope this helps someone in the future.
Also, the door buzzer..where is it? what does it look like? are they one in this model truck?
