3.4L Tacoma custom exhaust questions

I have a 2004 3.4L Tacoma and I just made an appointment to have a custom exhaust done. I'm basically having him fab me something that looks exactly like stock, but is stainless.

For the muffler, I'm going with a Maganflow, but I can't decide between the 18" or the 24" body. Basically I'm looking for a nice throaty sound, but with minimal cabin noise. What's my best bet?

If I was to guess Id say the exhuast on your truck is already stainless. Mine was on my 98. If you went with the 24 you might be able to use your existing pipe and just add the muffler. Just a thought

The stock pipes are definitely not stainless. I've only had my truck 2 months and they already look like crap.

The Stainless exhaust pipe on your rig is not gonna stay stainless "looking" like what your thinking. Mine was rusted looking just like what yours prolly looks like. I didn't think it was stainless either untill the exhuast shop I took it too showed/told me. Im not sure how custom stainless will react to the elements.

That sounds interesting. I didn't think stainless was supposed to rust. That's the point of stainless.

I'd say get the shorter one. With the muffler out back and under the bed, the noise inside will be minimal. You could also save yourself some money by just having a turn-down welded on the end of the muffler, rather than paying to have a new tailpipe put on. I know several guys with trucks that have done this and are happy with it. It also one less piece to worry about beating up off-road.

I know what your saying..its not really rust rust just surface rust that never really gets any worse. Maybe somebody else will chime in but I dont think stainless exhaust will ever stay nice and shiny, but Im not an expert

To check if the exhaust is SS or not use a magnet!
SS is non-magnetic.

I already ordered the 18" and I'm hoping I didn't make a mistake. I want a nice rumble, but I don't want to hear a lot of noise in the cabin.

it may sound a little tinney. I have 2.5 stainless and the 24 mag and it is great..
I am not sure what you are pushing through it though . ie I have a s.c.headers, so I have allot of exhaust going through there. I guess wait and see.

Do you have any pics of your exhaust? Did you have it custome made? I decided to go with the 24" instead of the 18"
