Best cheap mud terrain tire for stock height '91 Pickup?
My '91 Pickup is going to be used a winter vehicle (ie: it's snowing so I ditch the Corolla for the pickup) and a firewood hauler. I want to put a mud tire on it for obvious reasons, but because I won't be driving it everyday I don't care so much about having a tire that's all that long wearing (I might put 5,000 miles on it a year-if that), or quiet. What is your favorite off-brand mud terrain? I'm only looking for 31x10.5x15s so I'm hoping to keep it at around just over $100 a tire. Also, if anyone has pics of their stock second gen with 31's I'd love to see how they look.

Thanks for the suggestions-I checked the Dunlops and they were a bit pricier ($150 a tire for 31s) on the Tire Rack website, but the Treadwrights are interesting-I wouldn't have a problem with re-treads as the trucking industry has used them for years. I also found a cheapie that Pep Boys sells (Definity) that is worth investigating.

With a budget of only $100 per tire, it only leaves retreads or some noname brand.
Good luck my friend.
However, I have Hankook Dynapro MT's on my truck now and they are better than the BF MT's I use to run. Not around $100/tire though...

I'll put a vote in for the definity Dakota M/T's as well had those on there before changing to these mastercraft M/T's which I would recommend as well. I bought them used can't say anything regarding treadwear. Treadwrites are a very good option too.

For some folks maybe not but for me and my family it is. Basically I'm just trying to find a tire that will do what I need it to in the mud and snow but the way I look at it there are plenty of tires that will perform just fine in those conditions. The difference is that you pay a lot more for tires that can do those things AND last a long time AND stay quiet at highway speeds. You also pay more for the big brands than you do for "Definity" or "Mastercraft." If this truck was going to be a DD I'd spend the money on the better tires. Because it will be used so little I see it as an opportunity to safe $100+ that can be plowed into some useful mod or maintenance item.

I've had my mastercraft MT's since summer of 2005, have put about 40,000 miles on them and still have probably 25% left.
I think it would be a good tire for your situation.
Other suggestions would be maybe buckshot mudders?

All I run is the Merit All country M/T P235 75R/15 LXT on the 4Runner and the LT235 75 15 on the pick ups .
I love the tread pattern and as long as you don`t get high centered driving through deep snow I have no problem . Like you plan I don`t put that many highway miles a year After 2 years I saw some cupping on the 4Runner so I rotated them.
My driveway goes from mud bog to glacier depending what season.
I think last ones I bought I paid $104.00 but need to dig out the slip to be sure Looking at my Check book I paid $450.00 for 4 That was the total out the door price . That was back in June
