My runner kicked out some MAJOR black smoke a little while ago when I started it up. It was thick and very black.
I did a quick tune-up, no improvement.
Turned out to be a bad sensor. (something on the air intake)
It was re-tuned afterwards but the runner lost a bunch of power at the low end rpm range.
There's hesitation and a noticable loss of performance.

My question...
Would that black smoke (even if the runner was only run for a few minutes and not driven more than a few blocks) be enough to clog the catalytic converter and warrant a replacement?
I've read some posts that performance loss could be the cat.
Could it be a bad sensor or would the smoke do something else I'm not thinking of?
