'88 4runner overheating - cracked head??

Just put in a new radiator and thermostat a couple weeks ago. I keep having to add coolant/water just about every day and it still overheats. Radiator cap is pressurized. No leaks anywhere externally. All radiator hoses are hot, so I know it's circulating (old radiator was clogged somewhere). Occasional white smoke from tail pipe, but not all the time, even when cold. All signs are pointing me in the direction of replacing the head gasket and checking the head for cracks. Any other ideas out there of why it might be overheating, or should I just bite the bullet and get started taking it all apart?
