22re dies in drive! help please

ok to start off i have a 87 22re auto trans, and i am having a problem that when i put it in drive or reverse or even turn my ac on in park it dies, i can get the truck to idle in park and nuetral after giving it some gas, the check engine light is on as well. has anyone ran into this problem before? any suggestions? appreciate the help much

First tell us what codes you have stored in the ECU. If your check engine light is on this should be the first thing you do.

i dont know how to check for codes, how do you?

and my engine got really hot one day and has been doing it ever since

Search will tell you how to check for codes, I know how it is on regular Toyota OBDI vehicles, but I don't own a Toyota truck.. You need to put a wire between the terminals te1 and e1 in the check connecter under the hood and put the key in the on position. The check engine light will flash etc. Search is your friend.
