Hilux, sr5, truck clarification needed please

ok so yes i am a noob

i have been reading alot lately on the subject of hilux, sr5 and truck
i understand the sr5 is the sport rally package like the old ss models but i have goten confused on the hilux. i have read that 1. it was just a term adopted for the compact trucks. then i read no hilux is teh japan models and the north american model is just the truck or sr5.

so i have an 1988 toyota pick up. how do i know if its just a truck or hilux? i know its not an sr5.

the main reason i ask is i am looking for a service manual and found 4-Runner/Hilux Workshop Manual - 1988 but i am not sure its the right one

thanks in advance

check to see if it has it's under hood sticker still your make and model should be there unless someone ripped it off... it is usually either on the bottom of the hood, near the radiator, or near the battery/battery stuff

you could also put you car's vin into this website

Correct me if im wrong, but as far as I know they are the same except the Hiluxes were right side drive but there might be left side drive Hiluxes, idk but if you live in America it should be just a pickup and the SR5 is an option so it can be either a SR5 Pickup or SR5 Hilux.

I've done a little bit of research on the subject and that's what I've always found. They just called it a "pickup" for North America. Everywhere else it's a HiLux. One of the differences though, I believe, is the HiLux came stock with a 4.10 LSD. I could be totally wrong though. Either way there brother if you get a service manual like a Haynes or whatever if it says HiLux but has your year you should be alright. Shoot one of the old garages I used to take my truck to when I didn't have time to work on my truck back in Virginia had it listed on all the paper work and in the computer as a HiLux. So I think you'll be alright either way.
