how do you check to see if your water pump is out, with out starting the engine?

and on a side note, if your pullys, have a slight bend in them do they need to be repalced?

if it's broke u will know. wiggle the shaft.. if it's small and not offsetting anything u should be ok. forget grammar if ppl are on the internet and can't figure something out (should be able to auto correct stuff on their own ) they shouldn't be online .

 

Take the water pump off? With the pump installed, check for shaft play, as when the water pump "goes out" coolant leaks into the bearing area. If the water pump has been bad for a while, you should see coolant residue coming out of a small hole on the underside of the water pump called the "wee hole". if you have no residue there, you're probably good.

Edit: The "Wee hole" is designed that so that the water leaking past the pump shaft seal will leave the bearing area instead of staying in the bearing area destroying the pump shaft. It doesn't keep it from failing, but it make it last a bit longer once the seal is leaking.

 

Yep, check to see if its taking a "wee". You may need to pull some covers to see it. But generally if its leaking its bad. If you know when it was last replaced its a great Idea to replace with the timing belt if its a tb design. If its an 22r/re then look for the weep, loosen the belts and check for play/noise when spinning by hand.
