1994 22RE, going to replace front cover and pumps/ timing set. I guess there are steel guides in stead of plastic, is that the way to go? Are they noisy? Thanks!....All this mainly due to low oil PSI, and slightly seaping water pump.

and it's always a good idea to swap out the plastic guides (broken or not) with the metal one/s. ngnbldr.com has a nice kit, and it's less than $200. no more noise than the 22r-e already makes, and it'll last a lot longer

I went steel guide on my last motor and you could def hear it more than the plastic guide. Back to plastic now and new motor quiet exhaust: sounds like a lifted prius

 

Appreciate the input!! I want it quiet, I don't put a ton of miles on it. Mostly driven around town and a bit of hunting. I'm wondering if it's that big of difference. It's very excellent running, no smoke ever. I don't plan on being in the heads at all, just the front, being I can get the whole dang thing for pretty cheap, it just has low oil pressure. The whole front and pumps and perhaps mains and I'm betting I'm golden then. I guess I'll think about it......thanks guys for the input, appreciated!

as long as you don't dive into the pool without checking for water. i spent as much time searching and reading up as i did with the actual repair. and i did it right the first time.
