90-95.OBX 22re header compatible with 87 4runner?

As the title says...

Anyone running one of these and will this work on my 87 4Runner, 4wd, 5 Speed?

It's listed as being compatible with 90-95; but, I don't know what the difference is. Clearance...?

looks to be the same manifold. its listed for a 22r, but they stopped making the 22rs in 1987 should work. although i would recommend a known brand. ive never heard of OBX

Most stuff OBX makes is junk. However, for $180 shipped it might be worth the gamble. It's cheap enough. Search around for other people's experiences with them. I seem to vaguely recall flange warping issues.

'88 was the last year a 4wd truck could be had with the carb'd 22r (could be special ordered afterwards I have heard, but never seen one) in the US market.

'93 was the last year you could have a 22r in a 2wd truck.

'85 was the last year you could have a 22r in a 4runner.

The Header SHOULD work. Might be clearance issues, but most likely not. Only thing I can think of is the O2 sensor is on the manifold in '84.5-'87 22res, and on the downpipe in '88+

OBX is a cheap brand, like Pacesetter. You get what you pay for. I, personally, have not had any issues with my USED Pacesetter header. Many have, though. I have heard OBX is a little better.

Hi, Kenny! (from SM)
Ha ha! Hey shaeff! Small world!

Well, I'm going to give this a try. $180.00 is cheap enough and it's gotta be better than the pacesetter.

I have to admit though that a huge part of this decision is weighed upon the fact that my buddy is one of the best welders in town and he's three houses down from me.

I'll post up picks and such...

Thanks everyone!

ahhh, so obx is well known for making low-end stuff.

Mr. toyota4x4907 knows his stuff over there. i'd x2 on the o2 sensor being the culrpit.

I'm over on the East Side. The reason Toyotas are so revered and have so much respect IS their ability to attract females. I get almost as many looks in my 4runner as I do in my Supra.

Not sure if you purchased it already.... But I've seen TONS of Downey Headers and Even Doug Thorley's on sale on CList, pretty cheap. Not weighing in, either way, on OBX. I've seen LOTS of complaints on them... but never really researched enough on the subject to 'verify/discount' some/all of those claims, ya know?

I paid under 300 for My LCE header, ... 2 years, ..... still very happy with it. Something like that I expect to keep for YEARSSSS! lol. WIMean is, .... 100$ or so?(LCE has free shipping on that from AZ).

Ted of engnbldr seems to prefer the Tri-Y style... But Jim of Putney's(22reperformance.com) seems to like LCE's the best.

This is one of those purchases I thought "Yeah, ....lil more? S'ok, wanna do this ONCE, and with someone with a GREAT guarantee that takes things back in a heartbeat"...

Hope it works out great for ya, Kenny! BTW, ....."figya dem people'd tell me bout that Cajunnnnnnn spiiiiiiiiice!" lol..... Sorry, couldn't resist! Miss that old coot! lol.

Yeeeeeah!! Can't beat that!!

I haven't purchased it yet; but, will in the next day or so. Like I said, my welder buddy can bail me out if something goes wrong with it. He'll inspect the welds and flange flatness prior to install.

I love how SS exhaust manifolds turn colors with heat.

I'll be sure and let everyone know how it goes.

I'd buy em at that price
For what it's worth, almost any header or exhaust manifold will warp with time.
guarantee if you pull your stock manifold off, it won't have a straight and machined trueness to it.

I have one on my 93 4runner I had a tri y burn out and in a hurry to keep my truck running I bought the OBX cause L.C. was on back order for months. I have about 3-4k on the header with no issues so far other then the chrome bluing , I had the 02 sensor put on before the cat and there was plenty of wire for it to fit there as for the header itself I was surprised how easy it went in no issues at all BUT I have an S.A.S. so not sure if there will be any issue's for you if you don't have an S.A.S. but for the the money so far Id say it's a good deal my exhaust sounds good and flows good as well it's 2 1/2" with a hi flow cat.
