no heat at idle

My truck does not provide any heat when idling, even when the engine is at normal temp. once i rev the engine or start driving, the heat works fine. I checked my coolant level and I was quite low. What do you suppose is happening?

I had an engine block heater put in a couple months ago and maybe it has leaked coolant from a crappy install job on that.

If you don't have any other problems like a funky idle or weird smelling exhaust then you probable aren't burning your coolant.
I'd assume that they had to drain your coolant to put your block heater in so they might have just filled your radiator once and called it good when they were done. Then after you drove around a little it need to be topped off.
I'm not sure where it is at but I believe there is a vavle on top of the engine you can open to let any air out of the water jacket. You might try that too.

Thanks for the reply. I do not have any other engine problems, and I don't think I'm burning any coolant. I think it comes from the block heater install job. THe truck is in the dealer today for an oil change and I made sure that they look into my problem. THe truck is brand new, I hate having a problem already!

I am guessing it is an air pocket in your cooling system.

That's what my dad said, and it sounded good to me. Anyway, I brought it in yesterday and they did a pressure test that showed no leaks. So they topped it off and said it was fine. The heat did work fine after that, so maybe it was just that the coolant was so low. I'll have to keep an eye on it to see if the level goes down.
