81/93 toyota project

this is my parts truck that currently has a bonded tittle, and cant be registered.im working to get the thing registered.instead of mixing up pics with my 82 thread, ill post up a thread for each truck,my 82 will be a daily driver, this 81 a toy/project.
if all else fails ,and i cant get the tittle,i have a 1990 2wd nissan hardbody that drives for a donor sas swap with the yota drivetrain.
looking at 93 v6 2wd ext cab donor aswell.

the fuel lines were clogged with rust, tank has alittle rust in it,but cleanable in due time.so in the mean time i installed a $40 total 6 gal boat fuel tank.filled all 3 fuel lines with water, blew out with air for 20 mins.
ran her today for a few hours without any problems.
ill also put a deep cycle marine battery behind the cab.
i cant drive her on the street, but id like the run her once in awhile around the yard.

on the wore out stock springs i got 36 inches of flex at the rear, havent tried the front yet.

this 81 parts truck runs flawless,no smoke plenty power.
runs better than my 82 yota.
but my 82 has 33 inch swampers,so maybe thats why the 81 feels powerful....plus the 81 has a weber carb upgrade, with 30 inch tires, open exhaust behind the cat.

here she is

Cool project.

Yes I see other straps on there but in the interest of safety, next time you haul a vehicle, use real tie down straps....

will do....thanx for the advise.

i had more straps for the haul, but wanted to get pics before dark,i wasnt finished pulling the straps off.
i had a total of 10 straps,and a 3/4 ton come a long.
8 of those straps are rated at 2k lbs each...all new,2 straps are rated at 4 tons each...used but in good shape.
plus i chocked the wheels with 8 ft long 4x4's not pictured, which were also strapped down.
the truck wasnt moving.
i pulled over 20-30 mins to check the tightness of the straps.

but iunderstand there not real hauling straps.

plus theres a decal on the back window that states "honk if parts fall off"
figured i was good!

truck drives great,4x4 works aswell.
engine runs awesome,lots of power.

today i got offered a nice shape 2wd 93 toyota ext cab,v6....auto as a trade for this parts truck....i just might do the swap.
the 93 runs great,no smoke but is mixing water in the oil.(blown head gasket)

hard decision,i really wanna keep my parts truck...but i want that yota.
im thinking of engine and body swap the 93 onto my 82,then sell the 82 body

does anyone think this is a fair trade...or should i stick with my parts truck?
remember the parts truck cant be registered in y state, only mississippi, this 93 has a clear tittle.
the guy wants $1500 for the 93 as is.
i was actually trying to buy it for a sas swap,4x4 conversion using my 81 parts truck.
but im short on the cash,i only have $800 left in my budget, guy wont budge on the price.

i bought the 93.....after driving the truck with owner,i got the selling price down to $500....clear tittle.needs work on the front suspension, makes a horrible poping sound when turning both directions.
i know toyota had a few recalls on some of the front end of this year.
ac needs recharge, radio doesnt work.....typical old truck problems.

still a heck of a deal though.

i may just fix the 3vz for now,use the truck as a driver untill this winter, then swap the axels/drivetrain from the 81 into her.

does anyone know if the 22r 4 speed will bolt up to the 3vz v6?
id love to run the v6 on the 81 drivetrain.....if i have too,ill source a90's 4x4 auto tranny and case to fit,id prefer the pre taco trannies and case.

i may also sell my camo 82 for $2800-$3000 as is to pay off that loan, and fund parts for the hybrid yota project.
should sell quick just before hunting season.

i guess once the parts swapping begins ill either move or delete this thread.

The popping noise could just be the steering stops, every toyota I've ever had has done it. Unless you are already aware of this and it's something else.

when i back out/pull in the drive way.the drive way has a 3 inch lip to get onto the road.

the flatbed has massive rot,and termites....i hacked it off and will burn it soon.

the 93 is pretty clean, very comfortable driving it too.
cant wait to see what ill need to do the sas swap n the front end.
im thinking 35's twin stacked cases....maybe 4.7 case, gear change....just make it a gas guzzling monster.
a slow painful project.
just ideas at the moment....i will get it sas swaped and 4wd though.

how about the bell housings, can they be swapped....probally not.
any adapters out there?
what are my options,i want the v6,and 4wd.

i was hopping the 3vz would mate up to my 82 4 speed.
guess ill have to look into a 4x4 tranny and case for the 93 then.

thanx

isnt it a rule of thumb that all "r" engine transmissions are interchangable? figured i'd throw that out there, for future reference.

i'm not 100% sure, but look around http://www.advanceadapters.com/

they have all kinds of cool stuff

does anyone know if the tail end of my 2wd auto v6 tranny has a removable nose cone....if so....can it be replaced with the v6 tranny adapter plate that allows me to run my 81 t case on the v6 auto tranny.

id crawl under there and look....but im stuck offshore for about 1 mth.
